The Perks of Consumerism

All over the world, industrialization is occuring and creating huge amounts of waste, pollution and health problems.  While this massive subject has to be combatted in many different ways, one way is very simple: through the consumer.

Capitalism and markets are fed by consumerism, which is driving companies to put wants of consumers well above environmental needs.  As a consumer in a free-market system, one is allowed a certian freedom of choice.  In order to change our ways, we need to excersize this freedom.

HOW DO I START?

Here's a simple list of things you can do to make a change in your life to better yourself and the environment.

  1. Stay away from over-packaged foods, like the ones that come individually packaged per serving.
  2. Take a look at the "redlist" at Greenpeace and get informed as to what you're eating!
  3. Write letters and take action towards companies with GM products and tell them to label them.
