Government

Genetically modiefied (GM) foods have been cropping up all over the world.  They have become more popular, appearing in over 2/3rds of all US processed foods.  And this is all legal! No legislation currently forces companies to advertise whether or not they use GM products.

The rest of the world is not tolerating these GM foods as much as North America is though.  In Great Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Austria, Portugal (and most European nations), there are regulations to allow consumers to know whether or not they are eating foods that have been genetically modified at any point in production.

Canada is increasing it's efforts to inform consumers for health reasons by enforcing a law that all foods need proper nutritional labels with adaquate information on them.  As far as GM foods go, we're running short.  Canada does have regulations regarding the matter though.  Canada has taken measures to control what products can be genetically modified, but has not yet taken steps to inform consumers of this.
